Bathing

Here are some helpful tips to make your bath experience a positive one:

  • A baby's bath should be warm ... they are used to the moms body temp of 98 degrees- so make sure that the water is soothing for them and get a thermometer to make sure it is the correct temp, listed below.

  • Keep your baby covered while bathing them using an adult size washcloth to cover their body and wash them section by section.

  • Baby's love being in the warm water as long as they aren't hungry so schedule bath time in the late afternoon after they have eaten.

  • They do not particularly like getting out of the warm water into the cool air, so lower any ac that could be blowing cold air or warm up the room ahead of time to make it pleasurable for all involved.   Wrap them in their towel as quickly & safely as possible.

  • Make sure you have all of your items laid out before you begin so that you have everything that you need in arms reach.

  • Bath safety is extremely important.  Do not ever leave a baby in a tub by themself.

Summer Splish n' Splash Baby Tub

This is my favorite for newborns since it has a mesh sling that allows them to lie down safely and warmly since the water flows underneath them.  Once they are aprox. 5 months old, depending on size, the sling part is removed and the baby sits on a reclined foam pad in the tub.  Once they can sit on their own, the tub can be reversed and they can sit up, with assistance.  So this tub can be used for the first 8-10 months.

Angelcare Baby Bath

If you are looking for a smaller tub to fit in an apartment sink, this baby tub is smaller and will last until the baby is about 7-8 months old, depending on their size.

This is especially nice to use to prevent "Cradle Cap", which is a common skin condition in newborns and babies that causes rough patches on their scalp.  Using this to very gently wash your baby's hair will help prevent a build up of dry spots on their scalp.   Remember to moisturize any dry areas, even their head!
